Everywhere steel and water and light in unexpected forms. The mountains of Tennessee are green and slight compared to the dry and grand Rockies in my backyard. The coolness of this limestone wet place was a comfort from the searing Martian wind of the Great Basin. Cambodian Living Arts

Tonight's show has a few tracks inspired by the Cambodian Living Arts project, a performance art non-profit in Phnom Penh that is bridging the generations and rebooting the cultural brand of Cambodia. The amazing thing is that CLA is giving a voice to the generation almost ruined by the atrocities of the past and helping the youth of Cambodia and the Cambodian diaspora connect with their almost lost culture.

We are all about the animism in our urban-wildland interface here on FiloVision. This episode explores the dimensional exchanges between the living and the dead. The hunted and the hunters. Are males especially vulnerable when they go out into the night in search of survival? After recording this, I saw several gun powder prints of bucks at the Gail Severn Gallery in Ketchum, ID. That night I co-opted my daughter's U-Create Music toy sampler and made a little track. I think it is a sign that I need to create more music. More to come.

Sun Valley Center for the Arts has an exhibit of Indian (South Asian) art on exhibit. Check out the water colors of Baseera Khan. The gallery people said that Salman Rushdie is going to eventually make it to Idaho - in between filming Midnight's Children, lecturing at Emory and other activities. Maybe he can speak to us through telepathic dreamtime communication.

Got my eyes checked today and had all sorts of scans, puffs of air, scopes, and optical tests. I have an astigmatism at an angle in my left eye so regular soft contact lenses weren't working for me. I am trying a special contact lens for eccentric astigmatism that has a little weight in the edge so the lens sits at a prescribed angle on my eye. I can see great, but it feels like something is not right. I might just have to go under the laser.

Boise Art Museum has a new exhibit on the subject of robots opening this weekend. There is also a build night with a microcontroller orientation at the Reuseum Saturday @ 6PM.

Jason stops by for a tabula rasa nightlife report. He reveals a model for evening entertainment detection that involves no predetermined destination. It requires boots-on-the-ground field work in our urban walking grid. The boots looked like the slip on kind with a little bit of elastic. No zipper, Star Trek deals.

Kevin guides us through a satellite image inspired journey within. Don't let the pixel sirens fool ya.

I watched two really good documentaries lately. One about Stax Records. The other, Copyright Criminals, about sampling. It's amazing how much influence the Soulsville sound had on beats based music. The sampling of it I think contributes to honoring those musicians, especially in light of the fluidity of media in the social Internet.

I invited John Macaroy to guest DJ for FiloVision. He sent me a CD that he produced in his home studio. I couldn't convince him to come into the studio and do it live. I think he is scarred by the trauma he experienced in his commercial broadcast days back East when he worked for ABC. Apparently there were some indecency charges or complaints filed with the FCC, I'm not sure, I couldn't get much out of his agent except a few cryptic text messages. Modern English and a fan at Einstein A-Go-Go 1986

Growing up in the '80s in a medium sized town in the Bible-belt, a "godsend" was a radio show called "Disco Witch-hunt" aired by WJCT the pubilc station. The max-headroom-esque DJ played super-underground mutant pop that you could not find anywhere else. Today with music blogs galore, the kids have no concept of indie radio being an oasis when you live in a culturally isolated place. I think it indie radio still plays a roll today. Especially being able to broadcast info about what is going on locally in music venues, record stores, etc. I'm really interested in hearing about where people get the 411 on music shows in Boise. Boise Weekly? Go Listen Boise? Record Exchange? Twitter? What else?

All this talk of a "missing link" is just plain stupid. Do the mediators really have to dumb the science down to generate hype? It undermines the credibility of science and riles up the Creationists. I guess that's the way you do it, make up some emotionally charged BS and sell it to the masses in our newfound idiocracy. Cheney seems to be using that formula. I can understand manipulation in politics, but it really bugs me when we mediatize science and sacrifice accuracy. I'm not advocating for highfalutin geek jargon. I'm saying that it is possible to communicate the complexity of nature in the plain language of mass media. From now on I'm calling it the Histrionic Channel.

I wonder if drought tolerant plants absorb more carbon if they are C4 plants and not carbon leaky C3 plants? That would be double the eco-karma if you planted C4, drought tolerant plants. Less water use, more carbon fixing. What species?

Spring in Boise is a oxygen rich, moisture laden, and fleeting affair. I wish the foothills would stay green until August. Get out there immediately before it dries up into a crusty mass of dead grass. Pretend it is millions of years ago and the climate is tropical and there are dense forests of avocado trees. I've heard there are avocado leaf fossils in the foothills. Anyone know where?
Make a rock sculpture for post-eschaton inhabitants to help them remember how to dance.

Here is a selection of releases from 2008 that are either really good or have so much commercial potential that they have been licensed for use in advertisements by the likes of Apple and Anheuser Busch. Here's a good treatment of the business model. What is a music fan to make of themselves if their favorite music is used to target marketing campaigns back at them? I think it means we share good taste with the brand managers and good indie artists have to do whatever it takes to survive. I have a friend who is a DJ and music producer. He got a job at a fancy film production studio as the audio designer. My favorite thing about him was all his inside jokes. He was a really easy going guy with a lot of impish characteristics. Like he would go around the studio where he worked and would tell people in private, "you know, i don't care what anyone says about you, you are alright." This usually resulted in everyone laughing about ridiculous personal identity perceptions. But one time this dude picked the wrong guy to joke with. He said his usual phrase to a top guy of the company and the executive guy didn't get it that it was a joke. He prodded "What are people saying about me?!" And it became a big deal that my friend couldn't bring back into reality. I guess you could say some people are afraid of being caught with their pantalones in a compromised position.
